listening to music will definitly help you forget that your legs hurt. but the reason they hurt is because you havn't ran in so long. but what will help you run faster is if you lift waits and stretch and try to run at least 5 times a week. lifting waites will help you posture while you running.

well your gonna get sore alot, but eventually you'll get used to it. The first practices are always the worst. And I wouldn't run with your ipod. If you have a song that gets you pumped listen to it b4 practice.

Well, what my coaches tell me is to run everday with the team after school monday through friday. Then, run one day on the weekend. ALWAYS TAKE ONE DAY OFF.

One thing you might want to know is your not allowed to listen to and iPod DURING races. Im sure you know that though

As far as training goes, It would be helpful to know your events. I personally am a mid to long distance runner.

If you are running 100 meter dashes to 400 meter dashes in the meets, heres what i would do for training:

Day 1: Easy 1-2 mile jog/run.
Day 2: 8-12 (depending on how you feel) 100-150 meter hill sprints!
Day 3. 8-12 Quarter mile (400meter) sprints! start out trying to keep them all under 90 seconds.
Day. 4: 6-8 200 meter sprints!
Day 5: 8-12 100 meter sprints!
Day 6: 10-12 Quarter mile sprints! once again keep them under 90 seconds!
Day 7: REST! Youve worked hard.

If you are running 400meters-3,200meters try this:
Day 1: 2-3 Mile run
Day 2: 8-12 400s under 90 at least.
Day 3: 2-4 mile run. add some pick-ups part way through.
Day 4: 8-12 Hill Sprints! 100-150 meters
Day 5: 8-12 400s under 90 at least.
Day 6: 3-4 mile run with pick ups.
Day 7: REST!!

Other important details: Walking on your off day can be very beneficial. The blood flow can help repair damaged muscle tissue! Also, pick ups are sprints in the middle of a distance run. Say your running 4 miles. 2 miles into it try SPRINTING ALL OUT between one pair of telephone poles, then jog slowly the length of the next 2 telephone poles. Reapeat this 4 or 5 times.

I hope this helped and good luck in the season!

Eat more protein and potassium. Protein will help build muscle. Potassium will help your heart pump regularly while you are running. When you run, take in the biggest breath you can, hold it, then let it out slowly.

Just Practice, Practice, Practice.
Breath Slow, pace yourself, and concentrate.
Relax your hands and arms.
Don't start off super fast pace yourself, save energy for the last parts of the race.
Run everyday if it's possible.
Run longer each week also.

Good Luck.

=D That's great! I'm in track too and I love it SO much!!
Don't worry, the more you keep running, the better you will get at it. You just have to give it your all at every practice, and make sure you get in some good distance runs. Trust me, your hard work will pay off. If you have practice everyday, make sure you keep your calories up, or else you will burn out. I had experience with that. My coach used to tell us that you wouldn't fill a nice car with cheap gas, so don't eat junk. Eat high quality foods and you will see a difference. Eat plenty of lean protein, complex carbs, and fruits and veggies. Listen to your coach on everything else. Know your limits!

Good luck in track! It will be the best experience of your life :)

1. Please, please, please do not tell me you tried to run 3 miles right when you started! Even if you could before, people lose running soooo fast. I'm not saying you can't but it will hurt you more than help. Pace yourself as youre running and how much youre running. If you can handle a mile, do a little more each day.
2. What shoes are you wearing? I'm no a know it all but, I personally know that if you are wearing Nike Shox, which are advertised as running shoes, you are going to die! They slow you down because they are not proper for running. If you'd really like to run faster get WAFFLES, AKA SPIKESHOES WITHOUT OR W/ INSERTABLE SPIKES and dont use the spikes. Waffles make you run on your toes, which enables you to run faster.

All in all, practice every day, and eat whole carbs! Good Luck!
